ST. LOUIS, MO // February 24, 2016 — St. Alexius NewStart’s Norbert Richardson, MD, FACS, FASMBS, has returned as the Bariatric Medical Director at St. Alexius Hospital. He previously served as the bariatric program director with the NewStart program from August 2003 – May 2010 and August 2012 – July 2015.

Dr. Richardson is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He has performed over 2,000 laparoscopic bariatric surgeries and offers significant surgical expertise spanning numerous advanced laparoscopic procedures.

While at MU, he trained residents and fellows to perform advanced laparoscopic surgery, including bariatric surgery. Dr. Richardson was awarded the S. DeWeese, MD, Excellence in Arts and Science in the Operating Room: For Outstanding Commitment and Service to the Department of Surgery and its Residents and Fellows in June 2012.

Dr. Richardson received his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, and completed his residency in General Surgery at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita in 1994 and has been in practice since then.
