Norbert Richardson, MD, FACS
Norbert Richardson, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is the Bariatric Medical Director for St. Alexius NewStart at St. Alexius Hospital. He was previously a surgeon with the NewStart program from August 2003 to May 2010. He returned to the NewStart program from the University of Missouri-Columbia where he was awarded the S. DeWeese, MD, Excellence in Arts and Science in the Operating Room: For Outstanding Commitment and Service to the Department of Surgery and its Residents and Fellows in June 2012. While at MU, he trained residents and fellows to perform advanced laparoscopic surgery, including bariatric surgery.
Dr. Richardson is an American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery certified Center of Excellence surgeon. He has performed over 2,000 laparoscopic bariatric surgeries. He offers significant surgical expertise spanning numerous advanced laparoscopic procedures. In addition to bariatric surgery, he performs a wide range of general surgery procedures including advanced laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Richardson received his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, and completed his residency in General Surgery at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita in 1994 and has been in practice since then. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Dr. Richardson grew up in Union, Missouri, and enjoys snow skiing, water skiing, boating and fishing in his spare time. He is married and has five children.
